Milwaukee Brewers vs Detroit Tigers — Recap

📰Game Recap

Detroit overcame an early deficit to secure a 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, with timely hitting and a strong pitching performance dictating the game's flow. The Tigers took control in the middle innings and held off a late Brewers rally.

Milwaukee initially broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when Contreras singled to center, allowing Turang to score. However, Detroit quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth; Spencer Torkelson blasted a 400-foot home run to left center, bringing Greene home and giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The home team then expanded its advantage in the fifth as McGonigle doubled to right, scoring Báez, before Keith singled to right to plate McGonigle, making it 4-1.

Key to Detroit's control of the game were those back-to-back scoring innings, highlighted by Torkelson's go-ahead homer. On the mound, Casey Mize provided a stellar outing for the Tigers, striking out seven and surrendering just one earned run over six innings, allowing Detroit's offense to build and maintain its lead. Even after Bauers singled home Rengifo for Milwaukee in the eighth, cutting the deficit to two, Detroit answered immediately with Carpenter's 379-foot solo homer in the bottom of the inning, extinguishing any comeback hopes.

Ultimately, Detroit's ability to counter Milwaukee's initial lead with decisive multi-run innings and Mize's dominant pitching performance proved to be the difference. The Tigers improve to 61-64, while the Brewers fall to 77-49.
