The Pittsburgh Pirates pulled off an upset victory against the Milwaukee Brewers in a tightly contested, low-scoring affair. Pittsburgh's offense managed to score just enough to overcome the heavily favored Brewers, who struggled to generate offense after tying the game in the fifth inning.

The Pirates broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Esmerlyn Valdez launched a two-run home run to left field, also scoring Reynolds. Milwaukee responded quickly in the top of the fifth, as Turang's double to center brought home Chourio and Ortiz, leveling the score. Pittsburgh, however, immediately reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Reynolds singled to right, driving in Lowe.

The decisive blow came in the sixth inning when Reynolds' RBI single put the Pirates ahead for good. This came after Valdez's earlier two-run blast provided the initial spark, giving Pittsburgh a lead they would not fully relinquish. Despite a strong outing from Brewers pitcher Shane Drohan, who struck out six over 6.1 innings, he ultimately surrendered all three of Pittsburgh's runs, including the go-ahead score. The Brewers' lineup, meanwhile, went quiet after their two-run fifth, unable to answer the Pirates' late scoring.

Pittsburgh's timely hitting in key moments, particularly Valdez's homer and Reynolds' go-ahead single, allowed them to eke out a win against a stronger opponent. The Pirates improved to 58-60, while the Brewers fell to 72-44.
