The Chicago Cubs, entering the contest as the favored team with a 59-46 record, lived up to their pregame billing by securing a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins (53-54). The Cubs wasted no time in establishing their presence on the scoreboard, with Busch launching a 402-foot solo home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning, giving Chicago an early 1-0 lead. However, the Twins responded swiftly in the top of the second, as Kody Clemens connected for his first solo blast of the night, a 371-foot shot to right center, leveling the score at 1-1.

The tie proved to be short-lived as the Cubs quickly seized control of the game. In the bottom of the second, Amaya doubled to left field, driving in both Hoerner and Swanson to push Chicago ahead 3-1. They further extended their lead in a productive third inning; Hoerner singled to right to score Suzuki, and later in the frame, Ramirez hit a ground rule double that brought Happ home, widening the Cubs' advantage to a commanding 5-1.

Twins' slugger Kody Clemens continued his impressive individual performance in the seventh inning, once again providing a glimmer of hope for Minnesota. He hammered his second home run of the game, a 391-foot drive to right center, reducing the deficit to 5-2. Despite Clemens' two-homer, two-RBI effort accounting for all of the Twins' offense, the Cubs immediately stifled any potential comeback. In the bottom half of the seventh, Ramirez delivered another RBI with a single to right that scored Busch, re-establishing a comfortable 6-2 lead for Chicago, which would hold until the final out.

Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd turned in a strong outing, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing only one earned run while striking out four batters, effectively shutting down the Twins' lineup apart from Clemens' solo heroics. The Cubs ultimately prevailed as expected, maintaining their winning record thanks to a consistent offensive attack and solid pitching that kept the Twins at bay throughout the game.
