Game Recap
The Oakland Athletics overcame an early deficit, using a decisive three-run fifth inning and then holding off a late rally from the Baltimore Orioles to secure a narrow 4-3 road victory. The Athletics’ ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities proved just enough to edge a resilient Baltimore squad.
Baltimore initially took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Alonso sent a solo shot to right center field. However, Oakland quickly responded in the top of the fifth, as Gelof singled to left, bringing Wilson home to tie the game. Moments later, Kurtz tripled to right, scoring both Butler and Gelof, flipping the score to a 3-1 advantage for the Athletics.
The fifth inning ultimately swung the momentum, with Oakland converting a one-run deficit into a two-run lead against Orioles starter Kyle Bradish, who still managed to strike out 10 batters over seven innings. Though Adley Rutschman’s 401-foot solo home run in the sixth cut the lead to one, the Athletics added a crucial insurance run in the eighth when Wilson singled home Soderstrom. Rutschman again contributed to a late Baltimore push, scoring on Basallo’s single in the ninth, but the rally fell short.
Oakland’s timely hitting and crucial insurance run allowed them to withstand Baltimore’s efforts, securing a hard-fought victory away from home. The Athletics improved to 50-75, while the Orioles fell to 61-64.
