Pittsburgh Pirates vs San Francisco Giants — Recap

📰Game Recap

The San Francisco Giants secured a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, leveraging a strong outing from starting pitcher Robbie Ray and a pivotal three-run seventh inning. This offensive surge helped the Giants maintain control after an early lead change, effectively stifling Pittsburgh's offense for much of the contest.

Pittsburgh initially took the lead in the second inning when Ozuna launched a solo home run to left field. San Francisco swiftly countered in the bottom half of the frame as Rafael Devers connected for a solo shot to center field, evening the score at one apiece. The Giants then took their first lead in the fourth inning, with Ramos singling to center to drive in Devers, making it 2-1 in favor of the home team.

The turning point arrived in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Giants broke the game open with three runs. Gilbert singled to right field, scoring Adames and extending the lead. Following that, Arraez delivered a two-run single to right, bringing home both Gilbert and Ramos and pushing San Francisco's advantage to a commanding 5-1. This offensive outburst provided ample support for Robbie Ray, who excelled over six innings, striking out seven batters while allowing just one earned run. Devers also had a standout day at the plate, collecting two hits, including his home run, driving in one run, and scoring twice.

Ultimately, the Giants' combination of effective starting pitching and a timely offensive surge in the seventh inning proved too much for the Pirates to overcome. Pittsburgh managed only one more run in the ninth inning, a Horwitz single that scored Cruz, but it wasn't enough to mount a serious comeback. The win moves San Francisco's record to 52-73, while Pittsburgh falls to 61-66.
