πŸ“°Game Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals secured a decisive 9-4 victory over the Houston Astros, consistently building multi-run leads and fending off Houston's efforts to cut into the deficit. St. Louis never trailed in the contest, relying on timely hitting to keep the Astros at bay throughout the game.

St. Louis opened the scoring in the first inning with Walker's RBI single. They then extended their advantage in the third when Winn’s single brought home two more runs for a 3-0 lead. Houston responded immediately in the bottom of the third with back-to-back solo home runs from VΓ‘zquez and Alvarez, narrowing the gap to one run. Herrera added an RBI single in the fourth, but Altuve’s solo shot in the fifth once again made it a one-run game, 4-3.

Despite Houston repeatedly closing the gap with solo home runs, the Cardinals consistently found ways to score in bunches. The pivotal moment came in the seventh inning when Nolan Gorman blasted a three-run homer, scoring Burleson and Walker and expanding St. Louis's lead to 7-3. Ivan Herrera then solidified the advantage in the eighth with a two-run blast of his own, bringing his total to three RBI on the day. Cardinals starter Kyle Leahy navigated five innings, striking out six while surrendering three earned runs, helping to contain the Astros' offense before the late-inning surge.

The Cardinals' consistent ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities with multi-run innings proved to be the difference, as they repeatedly shut down Houston’s attempts to mount a comeback. St. Louis improved to 65-61, while Houston fell to 63-63.
