Toronto Blue Jays vs Arizona Diamondbacks — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Arizona Diamondbacks fended off a persistent Toronto Blue Jays offense, securing a 6-3 victory after taking control in the middle innings and capitalizing on a pivotal defensive error. Arizona responded to every Blue Jays threat, establishing a lead they would not relinquish and ultimately adding an insurance run in the eighth inning.

Toronto initially broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Sosa's sacrifice bunt brought home Straw. However, Nolan Arenado immediately countered for Arizona in the bottom half, launching a solo home run to left field. The Diamondbacks then strung together consecutive RBI singles in the fifth from Carroll and Fernandez, pushing their lead to 3-1. A solo blast from Straw in the top of the sixth once again pulled Toronto within a single run.

The decisive sequence unfolded in the bottom of the seventh. With Marte on base, a throwing error by first baseman Guerrero Jr. allowed Marte to score and kept runners on base. Arenado then delivered his second RBI of the game with a single to center, scoring Carroll and extending Arizona's lead to 5-2. This two-run frame gave the Diamondbacks crucial breathing room that Toronto could not overcome. On the mound, Michael Soroka delivered a strong performance for Arizona, pitching seven innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out five to keep the Blue Jays' bats in check.

Ultimately, Arizona's consistent run production, timely hitting from players like Arenado, and their ability to capitalize on Toronto's defensive miscues proved to be the difference. They maintained control after taking the lead and held firm against Toronto's attempts to rally. The Diamondbacks improved their record to 67-59, while the Blue Jays fell to 61-66.
