Tampa Bay Rays vs Pittsburgh Pirates — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Pittsburgh Pirates contained the Tampa Bay Rays' offense and pulled ahead late to secure a 5-1 victory. Pittsburgh's pitching staff held the high-powered Rays lineup to a single run, while the Pirates offense delivered key hits to break a deadlock and add insurance.

The Pirates opened the scoring in the second inning when Horwitz doubled to right field, bringing Ozuna home. The game remained a tight one-run affair until the top of the sixth, when Caminero's single to center for the Rays drove in Simpson, knotting the score at one run apiece. However, the tie was short-lived.

Pittsburgh immediately answered in the bottom of the sixth, with Oneil Cruz launching a 385-foot home run to right center, scoring Griffin and reclaiming the lead for the Pirates. Bubba Chandler's solid outing, allowing just one earned run through six innings, kept the Rays at bay and provided the stability for the offense to take over. The Pirates then extended their lead in the eighth inning when Lowe doubled to center, plating both Cook and Griffin to create a four-run cushion.

Ultimately, timely hitting and a strong outing from their pitching staff allowed the Pirates to prevail, effectively silencing the Rays' bats after a mid-game tie. Following this contest, the Pirates' record stands at 62-65, while the Rays' record moved to 74-50.
