St. Louis Cardinals vs Houston Astros — Recap

📰Game Recap

St. Louis secured a 7-5 extra-innings victory over Houston, fueled by a decisive three-run outburst in the tenth inning after the Astros had rallied to tie the game in the eighth.

The Astros initially took the lead in the third inning when Correa hit a sacrifice fly, bringing Trammell home. St. Louis responded forcefully in the fifth, beginning with Scott II walking in Winn to tie the game. Wetherholt followed with a two-run single, scoring Church and Pagés, before Herrera singled home Scott II, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 advantage. The Astros mounted a comeback in the eighth inning, narrowing the deficit with Alvarez's solo home run. Paredes then singled to right, scoring Altuve and Walker, knotting the score at four runs apiece.

While the Cardinals' four-run fifth inning initially swung the momentum in their favor, creating a three-run lead, the game's ultimate decision point arrived in the tenth. After Houston's eighth-inning rally erased the Cardinals' advantage, Masyn Winn delivered a crucial three-run double to left field in the top of the tenth. This pivotal hit brought Herrera, Urías, and Walker across the plate, pushing St. Louis to a 7-4 lead that proved insurmountable despite a late Houston run. Matthew Liberatore's solid six-inning, one-earned-run outing also helped keep the Astros offense in check for much of the game.

The Cardinals ultimately prevailed through timely hitting and persistence, particularly from Masyn Winn, who finished with three hits and three RBIs, allowing them to overcome Houston's late-game surge. St. Louis now stands at 65-61, while Houston drops to 63-63.
