Toronto Blue Jays vs Arizona Diamondbacks — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Toronto Blue Jays opened their contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks with an overwhelming eight-run first inning, establishing a lead that Arizona could never truly challenge en route to a 10-4 victory.

The Blue Jays wasted no time in the top of the first, with Guerrero Jr. singling to drive in Lukes and Clement, followed by Jiménez's single that scored Guerrero Jr. The scoring continued as Okamoto doubled, bringing home Sánchez and Jiménez, before Lukes capped the rally with a double that plated Giménez, Straw, and Okamoto. Arizona responded with a run in the bottom of the second when McCann singled home Del Castillo. Toronto then extended its lead with Okamoto's solo homer in the third and Giménez's sacrifice fly in the fourth, scoring Guerrero Jr.

While Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Pfaadt settled in to pitch 6.1 innings and allowed just one earned run, his efforts followed an early barrage that proved insurmountable. The Blue Jays' initial eight-run explosion in the opening frame, spearheaded by Kazuma Okamoto's eventual two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored, established a lead that Arizona's offense, despite chipping away with Del Castillo's RBI double in the sixth and Barrosa's two-run homer in the seventh, could not overcome.

Ultimately, Toronto's decisive first inning created an early and permanent gap that Arizona's offense was unable to close. The Blue Jays improved their record to 62-65, while the Diamondbacks fell to 66-60.
