πŸ“°Game Recap

The Colorado Rockies, entering the contest with a 42-65 record, secured an 8-7 victory over the Washington Nationals (54-52) in a tightly contested affair. The favored Rockies, who held an implied 51% probability of winning, delivered a back-and-forth battle that ultimately went their way, largely propelled by an explosive second inning and a late-game surge.

Washington wasted no time making an impact, with CJ Abrams launching a 423-foot, two-run homer to center in the top of the first, scoring Tena and putting the Nationals ahead 2-0. However, the Rockies immediately answered with a pivotal four-run rally in the bottom of the second. Moniak’s single brought home Rumfield to get Colorado on the board, followed by Johnston’s sacrifice fly scoring Karros to tie the game. McCarthy then doubled to right, driving in Moniak for the lead, and Carrigg singled him home, completing the turnaround and giving Colorado a 4-2 advantage.

The seesaw nature of the game continued into the third, as Abrams once again left the yard, crushing a 434-foot, two-run shot to right-center that again scored Tena, drawing Washington level at 4-4. The Rockies quickly reclaimed the lead in the bottom half when Karros grounded out to second, allowing Castro to score. Not to be outdone, Washington’s Wood delivered a two-run double in the fourth, bringing home NuΓ±ez and Ruiz to put the Nationals back in front, 6-5.

Colorado refused to be denied, with Rumfield singling home Goodman in the fifth to knot the score at 6-6. Moniak then broke the tie in the sixth with a 421-foot solo home run to right-center, giving the Rockies a 7-6 lead. Washington fought back one last time in the top of the seventh, as Vivas hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wood and tying the game for the final time at 7-7.

The decisive blow came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Goodman connected for a 399-foot solo home run to left-center, putting the Rockies ahead 8-7. Colorado's Jordan Romano delivered a stellar performance on the mound, recording two strikeouts across a scoreless inning of work to secure the win. Despite the Nationals' loss, CJ Abrams showcased an exceptional individual performance, finishing the game with two hits, both home runs, four RBI, and two runs scored.
