Arizona Diamondbacks vs Chicago Cubs — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs secured a tight, low-scoring victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, largely thanks to a dominant pitching performance and timely hitting. Shota Imanaga delivered seven shutout innings, allowing the Cubs' minimal offense to hold up and keep the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard entirely.

Ian Happ provided the initial spark for Chicago, launching a solo home run in the second inning to give the Cubs an early lead. This slim advantage held for much of the contest as both pitching staffs largely suppressed opposing hitters. The Cubs later added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Seiya Suzuki's sacrifice fly brought Happ home, who had reached base for the third time.

Imanaga's stellar outing was the decisive factor in the game, as he stifled the Diamondbacks' bats through seven frames, ensuring their zero on the scoreboard. His five strikeouts and clean sheet kept Arizona from ever threatening to tie or take the lead. Happ's contributions were also instrumental, as he accounted for both runs scored by the Cubs, first with his solo shot and then crossing the plate on the sac fly in the eighth, completing a three-hit day.

Ultimately, the Cubs' combination of lights-out pitching from Imanaga and just enough offense led by Ian Happ proved to be the winning formula in a pitching-dominated affair. The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, struggled to generate any meaningful offense against Chicago's staff, managing only a handful of hits. Chicago now holds a 73-53 record, while Arizona stands at 66-60.
