Atlanta Braves vs Seattle Mariners — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-1, relying on a dominant pitching performance to stifle a potent Atlanta offense and secure the series opener. Seattle’s control of the game was established early and maintained throughout, with timely hitting providing just enough support for their strong arms on the mound.

Seattle opened the scoring in the third inning when Pereda came home on a double play groundout by Raleigh. Julio Rodriguez then extended the Mariners’ lead to two runs in the sixth inning with a 436-foot solo home run to center field. Atlanta finally broke through in the eighth, as Smith’s sacrifice fly allowed Yastrzemski to score, but Seattle quickly answered in the bottom of the frame when Young doubled to right, driving in Naylor to restore the two-run cushion.

The decisive factor in Seattle’s victory was the outstanding performance of starting pitcher Bryan Woo. Woo delivered six masterful scoreless innings, striking out nine Braves hitters and allowing his team to build a crucial early lead. His ability to neutralize Atlanta’s bats kept the game in the Mariners’ favor, preventing any significant comeback attempt even when Atlanta managed to get on the board late.

Ultimately, the Mariners’ blend of stellar pitching and opportunistic offense proved too much for the Braves, with Woo’s gem setting the tone for the entire contest. Following the win, Seattle improved its record to 60-66, while Atlanta dropped to 74-51.
