Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago Cubs — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs secured a dramatic 7-6 walk-off victory over the Cincinnati Reds, snatching the win in the 10th inning after a wild finish. Cincinnati had mounted a four-run rally in the top of the ninth to claim a late lead, but the Cubs answered with a two-run homer in the bottom half before ultimately winning in extra innings.

Early in the contest, the Cubs established control. Ian Happ's two-run home run in the first inning immediately erased an initial Reds advantage, putting Chicago ahead 2-1. They extended their lead in the fourth when Seiya Suzuki doubled home Happ, followed by a run scored by Suzuki on a groundout, pushing the score to 4-1. While McLain cut the deficit with a solo shot in the fifth, Chicago maintained its two-run cushion heading into the final frame.

The game pivoted dramatically in the ninth. Steer ignited the Reds' offense with a solo home run, making it a one-run game, and Bleday's single tied the score, setting the stage for a two-run sacrifice fly from De La Cruz that put Cincinnati up 6-4. However, Chicago's resolve shone through as Crow-Armstrong launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, knotting the game once more. Despite Colin Rea's strong start for the Cubs, allowing just one earned run over 5.1 innings, the late-game drama ultimately defined the outcome.

Ultimately, it was the Cubs' timely hitting and ability to respond under pressure that decided the contest. Their immediate counter-punch in the ninth after surrendering the lead, followed by the walk-off in the tenth on Busch's bases-loaded walk, showcased a resilience that prevailed. The Chicago Cubs now hold a 73-53 record, while the Cincinnati Reds fall to 59-66.
