📰Game Recap

The Washington Nationals overcame two early deficits and then unleashed a torrent of offense to rout the Minnesota Twins. After falling behind 2-1 in the fifth inning, Washington scored 14 unanswered runs, culminating in a seven-run eighth inning explosion, to secure a decisive victory.

Minnesota initially grabbed a lead in the third inning when Wallner singled home Keaschall. The Nationals responded in the bottom of the fourth, with Abrams doubling to center field to even the score. Wallner put the Twins back in front with a solo home run in the fifth, but Washington immediately answered when Millas connected for a two-run homer later that inning. Washington then extended its lead in the sixth as House and Tena hit back-to-back doubles, followed by Nuñez’s triple, accumulating three runs in the frame.

The Nationals continued to build their advantage in the seventh inning, with House launching a two-run home run. However, the game truly broke open in the bottom of the eighth. Washington sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs on three hits, including two home runs, to turn a comfortable lead into a blowout. Wood’s single drove in two, setting the stage for Abrams’ grand slam, his first home run of the day, which extended the lead to 14-2. Tena capped the massive inning with a solo shot, marking the team’s third home run in two innings. Abrams finished the contest with five RBIs, leading an offensive surge that saw the Nationals pile up 14 runs over the final four innings.

The Washington offense, showcasing power and timely hitting throughout the lineup, proved too much for Minnesota to handle, turning a tight contest into a runaway victory. Washington now holds a 61-66 record, while the Twins fell to 60-66.
