Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Boston Red Sox earned a 4-0 shutout victory over the Detroit Tigers, building an early lead and extending it with two crucial unearned runs that proved pivotal in the middle innings.

Boston broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third when Durbin doubled to left, driving home Mayer and advancing Narváez to third. Contreras followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Narváez to score and push the Red Sox to a 2-0 advantage. The Red Sox then doubled their lead in the top of the fourth, not with a hit, but on a critical defensive breakdown. Masataka Yoshida and Rafaela both scored after Narváez reached first on a fielding error by third baseman Keith, which also allowed Narváez to advance to second.

Despite the Tigers' starting pitcher Jack Flaherty delivering a strong outing with 10 strikeouts over 5.0 innings, yielding only two earned runs, his efforts were undermined by the defense behind him. The two unearned runs allowed in the fourth inning were particularly damaging, providing Boston with a 4-0 cushion that became insurmountable given the shutout performance from their pitching staff.

The Red Sox effectively capitalized on Detroit's defensive miscues and delivered timely hitting to secure the road shutout. Boston now stands at 67-58 on the season, while Detroit's record falls to 60-65.
