Game Recap
The Kansas City Royals secured a dramatic walk-off victory over the Baltimore Orioles, persistently chipping away at an early deficit and answering a late Baltimore rally before winning on a wild pitch in the ninth inning.
Baltimore initially took an early lead in the second inning when Coby Mayo launched a three-run home run to left field, a 439-foot shot that also scored Jackson and Wilson. Royals starter Kris Bubic settled in after that early blast, holding the Orioles scoreless for the next four frames. Kansas City began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly from Massey. The Royals continued their rally in the fifth, first cutting the lead to one on Garcia's RBI single, then tying the game at three apiece on a sacrifice fly by Pasquantino. Witt Jr. gave Kansas City its first lead in the seventh inning with another sacrifice fly.
The Orioles mounted a late charge, briefly regaining the lead in the top of the eighth when Rutschman hit a two-run homer to left-center. However, the resilient Royals immediately answered in the bottom of the frame, as Massey connected for his own solo home run, knotting the score once more at five runs each. This set the stage for the decisive ninth inning, where the Royals' relentless offense created another scoring opportunity.
The Royals' persistent offense, marked by timely hitting and capitalizing on opportunities, ultimately wore down the Orioles, culminating in Garcia scoring the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth. Kansas City now holds a 52-74 record, while Baltimore falls to 61-64.
