Baltimore Orioles vs Washington Nationals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Washington Nationals clinched a narrow one-run victory over the Baltimore Orioles, clinging to their early lead despite a tense ninth-inning rally from their opponents. Crucial early offense provided just enough cushion for Washington to secure the win at home.

The Nationals broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when House hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Abrams to score. Two innings later, Daylen Lile extended Washington's advantage, launching a 379-foot home run to right center that also brought Mead across the plate, pushing the score to 3-0.

That three-run lead proved to be essential as the Orioles mounted a comeback bid in the top of the ninth. Baltimore got on the board when Jackson’s sacrifice fly plated Basallo, and then Henderson followed with a single to center field that scored O'Neill, cutting the deficit to a single run. However, the rally stalled there, leaving the tying run stranded. Orioles starter Shane Baz pitched seven innings, striking out four but giving up all three Nationals runs.

The Nationals’ ability to generate early runs, capped by Lile's timely home run, ultimately provided the margin of victory, allowing them to withstand Baltimore’s late charge. Following this contest, the Washington Nationals hold a 61-66 record, while the Baltimore Orioles stand at 61-64.
