Boston Red Sox vs Detroit Tigers — Recap

📰Game Recap

Boston secured a decisive victory over Detroit, establishing an early lead with a first-inning home run and breaking the game open with a five-run third inning. The Red Sox offense proved too much for the Tigers, while their starting pitcher effectively stifled any comeback hopes.

The Red Sox wasted no time, as Ceddanne Rafaela launched a three-run homer in the top of the first, driving in Abreu and Story. The Tigers attempted to counter immediately, with Vierling hitting a solo shot and Pérez later singling home Jones, narrowing the deficit to one run. However, Boston's bats continued to produce, and Detroit would not get any closer.

The true turning point arrived in the third inning when Boston exploded for five runs, effectively putting the game out of reach. Rafaela singled home Contreras, initiating the rally. Following him, Monasterio singled to score Story, and Durbin then singled to bring Rafaela across the plate. Wong added another run with a single, before Kiner-Falefa's fielder's choice allowed Durbin to score, pushing Boston's lead to six runs. The Red Sox extended their advantage further in the fourth with back-to-back solo home runs from Contreras and Abreu. Meanwhile, Red Sox starter Brayan Bello delivered a strong performance, limiting the Tigers to just one earned run over seven innings, allowing the large lead to hold firm.

Boston's potent early offense, highlighted by Rafaela's exceptional day at the plate and a game-breaking third inning, combined with Bello's dominant pitching, ensured they controlled the game from start to finish. The Red Sox now stand at 67-58, while the Tigers fall to 60-65.
