Chicago Cubs vs Pittsburgh Pirates — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago Cubs broke open a tied game with a decisive six-run seventh inning, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-4. This offensive explosion secured the win after the Pirates had twice erased early deficits, turning a back-and-forth contest into a comfortable late-game advantage for Chicago.

Chicago started strong, with Ian Happ delivering a two-run single in the first inning and Nico Hoerner adding an RBI single in the second, staking the Cubs to a 3-0 lead. However, Pittsburgh responded in the third inning when Lowe hit a three-run home run to right field, tying the game. Chicago briefly regained the lead in the fourth on a Crow-Armstrong double, but Griffin countered with a solo blast in the bottom of the inning, knotting the score once more at 4-4.

The deadlock was shattered in the seventh inning as Chicago mounted its biggest offensive surge of the game. Happ struck again, launching a three-run home run to right field, putting the Cubs up 7-4 and igniting a six-run rally. Michael Conforto followed with a two-run shot of his own, and Matt Busch singled to drive in another run, extending the lead to 10-4. This burst provided an insurmountable lead after the back-and-forth action of the earlier innings; Happ finished the afternoon with five RBIs.

Ultimately, the Cubs' potent late-game offense proved too much for the Pirates, preventing any further comebacks. Chicago improved its record to 73-53, while Pittsburgh fell to 61-66.
