Game Recap
The Houston Astros secured a hard-fought road victory over the Texas Rangers, utilizing a pivotal two-run eighth inning and a strong starting performance from Mike Burrows. After exchanging leads throughout the contest, Houston pulled ahead late and held on for the narrow win.
Texas drew first blood in the bottom of the opening frame when Nimmo singled home Pederson. Houston quickly countered in the second, as Shewmake's sacrifice fly brought Trammell across the plate. The back-and-forth affair continued in the third with Pedersonβs solo home run, only for Alvarez to answer with a 428-foot blast in the fourth, once again knotting the score at two apiece.
The decisive blows for Houston came in the top of the eighth inning. Alvarez broke the tie with his second home run of the game, a 448-foot shot to center field, giving the Astros a 3-2 lead. The inning continued when Trammell executed a sacrifice bunt that allowed Walker to score, and a throwing error by pitcher Alexander on the play further extended Houston's advantage. Pederson continued his impressive day with his second solo homer in the bottom of the eighth, narrowing the deficit, but Burrows' seven innings of work, in which he allowed just two earned runs while striking out six, had kept the game within reach for the Astros.
Ultimately, Houston's timely power hitting and Burrows' extended effectiveness on the mound proved just enough to overcome Pederson's multi-homer effort for Texas. The Astros now hold a 64-62 record, while the Rangers fell to 61-65.
