Cincinnati Reds vs New York Mets — Recap

Game Recap
The New York Mets secured a tight victory over the Cincinnati Reds, successfully fending off every challenge to their lead from the opening inning. New York never trailed in the contest, consistently answering Cincinnati’s scoring plays to maintain its narrow advantage throughout the game.
Juan Soto provided the initial spark for the Mets, launching a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning. Wagaman followed suit in the second, extending the lead to 2-0 with another solo shot. Cincinnati got on the board in the third when Lowe singled to center, allowing De La Cruz to score. However, Benge delivered a crucial RBI single in the fifth, driving in Baty to push New York’s lead back to two runs. The Reds once again trimmed the deficit in the sixth inning after Stewart’s infield single scored Stephenson.
The Mets' ability to deliver timely hits proved decisive in keeping Cincinnati at arm's length. Each time the Reds chipped away at the lead, New York found an answer, preventing Cincinnati from ever tying or taking the lead after the second inning. Soto's early home run set the tone, but it was Benge’s two RBI singles in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, that were particularly instrumental in restoring a multi-run cushion for the Mets. Andrew Abbott’s six innings for Cincinnati, in which he allowed three earned runs, kept the game within reach but ultimately gave the Mets just enough offense to work with.
Ultimately, New York prevailed by effectively managing the game, never allowing the Reds to fully close the gap and leveraging clutch hitting to respond to every scoring effort. The Mets now hold a 57-69 record, while the Reds fall to 59-66.
