St. Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Milwaukee Brewers staged a late rally to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals, overcoming a one-run deficit in the eighth inning. A pivotal fielding error by St. Louis shortstop Winn allowed the go-ahead run to score, sealing a narrow victory for Milwaukee in a tightly contested affair.

For much of the game, the contest was a low-scoring battle, with both teams struggling to generate offense. St. Louis broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when Torres tripled to right field, driving home Walker. That solitary run held up for several innings as Cardinals starter Dustin May effectively navigated the Brewers' lineup.

May delivered a strong performance for St. Louis, allowing just one earned run over seven innings while striking out nine batters. However, his efforts were undone in the bottom of the eighth. The Brewers began their comeback when Christian Yelich singled to right, scoring Mitchell and knotting the game at one run apiece. Moments later, the decisive run crossed the plate as Frelick scored on a crucial fielding error by Winn at shortstop, giving Milwaukee a late lead they would not relinquish.

Milwaukee's timely hitting in the clutch, combined with a costly defensive miscue from St. Louis, ultimately proved to be the difference after a lengthy pitchers' duel. The Brewers capitalized on their opportunity in the eighth, securing a comeback victory to improve their record to 78-48. The Cardinals, despite a stellar pitching effort, fell to 64-62.
