Colorado Rockies vs New York Mets — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Colorado Rockies held the New York Mets to a single run, chipping away to secure a 3-1 victory. Despite a solid outing from Mets starter Nolan McLean, the Rockies found just enough offense to pull ahead and keep the Mets at bay through the late innings.

Colorado opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Johnston singled to right, bringing Julien home. Tyrone Taylor immediately answered for the Mets in the bottom of the fifth, launching a solo home run to left center that tied the game at one. However, the Rockies quickly reclaimed their lead in the sixth on a ground into a double play by Johnston that allowed Julien to score once more. They then added an insurance run in the seventh, with McCarthy singling home Sullivan.

The game turned on the Mets' inability to capitalize on momentum after Taylor's tying blast. After knotting the score in the fifth, New York's offense went dormant, managing no further runs against Colorado's bullpen. The Rockies, conversely, showed a persistent ability to manufacture runs in consecutive innings, adding single tallies in the sixth and seventh to create separation. Nolan McLean delivered a strong performance for the Mets, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run over five innings, but the subsequent relief pitchers conceded the crucial later runs.

Ultimately, the Colorado Rockies' consistent, albeit modest, offensive output proved too much for the New York Mets, whose bats struggled to find life after the fifth inning. The Rockies moved to 51-76 on the season, while the Mets dropped to 57-71.
