πŸ“°Game Recap

The Boston Red Sox secured a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, establishing a commanding lead through a potent offensive display in the middle innings that proved too much for Baltimore to overcome despite a late surge. Boston’s pitching then worked to maintain the advantage, stifling attempts at a full comeback.

Boston broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the fifth inning when Monasterio singled to center, bringing Durbin home. Contreras then expanded the lead with a 406-foot home run to left center, scoring Duran and pushing the Red Sox ahead 3-0. Baltimore quickly responded in the bottom of the frame as Basallo launched a 392-foot solo shot to right. The Red Sox offense continued its output in the sixth inning; Rafaela tripled to center to plate Abreu, and Mayer followed with a single to left, driving in Rafaela and extending Boston’s advantage to 5-1. Gunnar Henderson connected for a 391-foot solo home run to right center for the Orioles in the bottom of the sixth, and later singled to left to score Cowser in the eighth.

The Red Sox's three-run fifth inning, coupled with a two-run sixth, proved to be the decisive sequence. Boston strung together multiple hits and a timely home run to establish a 5-1 lead that Baltimore struggled to erase. Connelly Early was instrumental in holding the Orioles at bay, delivering 6.2 innings while allowing only two earned runs and collecting four strikeouts, effectively minimizing Baltimore's opportunities. Although Gunnar Henderson had a strong day at the plate for the Orioles with two hits, including a home run, and two RBI, his efforts were not enough to overcome the early deficit created by Boston's back-to-back scoring frames.

Ultimately, the Red Sox’s ability to seize scoring opportunities in consecutive innings allowed them to build an insurmountable lead, which their pitching staff then protected against Baltimore’s attempts to rally. The Red Sox now hold a 67-58 record, while the Orioles fall to 61-64.
