San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Arizona Diamondbacks staged a dramatic comeback against the San Diego Padres, erasing a six-run deficit by scoring 11 unanswered runs late in the game to secure a 12-7 victory. Padres slugger Manny Machado put on an early power display, but it was Arizona's relentless offense in the seventh and eighth innings that ultimately determined the outcome.

San Diego built a commanding lead early, with Campusano's RBI double in the second inning opening the scoring. Machado then launched a two-run homer in the third, followed by another three-run blast in the fifth, extending the Padres' advantage to 6-0. The Diamondbacks began to chip away with a solo home run from Fernandez in the bottom of the fifth. Campusano responded with a solo shot of his own in the sixth, pushing the Padres' lead back to 7-1, before Vargas connected for a solo homer to keep Arizona within striking distance.

The turning point arrived in a six-run seventh inning for Arizona, which flipped the game on its head. Tawa's grand slam drastically cut the Padres' lead to 7-6, bringing the Chase Field crowd to life. Later in the frame, Gurriel Jr. delivered a two-run double, putting the Diamondbacks ahead 8-7. The Diamondbacks weren't done, adding four more runs in the eighth. Vargas cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Marte followed with an RBI single, solidifying Arizona's lead and completing the stunning offensive barrage. This late-game power surge overshadowed Michael King's solid six-inning, two-run outing for San Diego.

Arizona's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities and generate extra-base hits in crucial moments proved overwhelming, as their bullpen held the line after their offense exploded. The Diamondbacks' comeback victory pushed their record to 67-60, while the Padres fell to 67-60.
