The San Francisco Giants, entering the contest as the favored team against the Colorado Rockies, lived up to their billing with a hard-fought 3-1 victory. The win pushed the Giants' record to 47-62, while the struggling Rockies fell to 42-68. Despite the Giants ultimately securing the win, it was Colorado who drew first blood, as Jake McCarthy put the Rockies ahead early in the top of the first inning with a remarkable 387-foot inside-the-park home run to right field, giving Colorado a brief 1-0 advantage.

That early lead, however, was short-lived, as the Giants responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eldridge crossed the plate to tie the game at 1-1 on a single to left field by Gilbert, with Adames advancing to second. From that point, Giants pitcher Trevor McDonald took control, delivering a stellar performance through seven innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out four Rockies batters. McDonald's strong outing kept the game knotted, setting the stage for his team's offense to eventually break the deadlock.

The decisive blow came in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the game still tied, the Giants manufactured two crucial runs. Devers scored the go-ahead run after a throwing error by Rockies catcher Goodman, an unfortunate miscue that also allowed McCray to steal third. Adames then followed up with a single to left field, driving in McCray and extending San Francisco's lead to 3-1. The two-run rally in the eighth proved to be enough, as the Giants closed out the contest, ensuring the pregame favorite ultimately prevailed.
