Minnesota Twins vs Cleveland Guardians — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Minnesota Twins secured a narrow 5-4 victory over the Cleveland Guardians, holding on after building a significant four-run lead in the middle innings. Cleveland mounted a persistent late-game rally, scoring in three consecutive innings, but ultimately fell one run short of completing the comeback.

Minnesota broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when Clemens came home on a wild pitch from Guardians starter Gavin Williams. Cleveland quickly countered in the bottom of the same frame, as José Ramírez singled to center, allowing Brayan Rocchio to cross the plate and tie the game. The Twins then exploded for four runs in the fifth, shifting the game's momentum.

That decisive fifth inning for the Twins proved to be the turning point. Lee singled to center, allowing Clemens to score, which was followed by Lewis doubling to left to bring in Lee. Bell then drove in Lewis with a single, and Martin singled home Buxton, extending Minnesota's lead to 5-1. Guardians starter Gavin Williams, who ultimately allowed all five Twins runs over six innings, struggled to contain the Minnesota offense during this stretch. Though the Guardians immediately responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Martínez, they could only chip away at the deficit from there. Brayan Rocchio, who notched four hits for Cleveland and scored twice, added another run in the sixth on a DeLauter single, and Fry scored in the eighth on a ground out from DeLauter, bringing Cleveland within one.

Ultimately, the Twins' concentrated offensive burst in the fifth inning provided just enough cushion to withstand Cleveland's persistent late-game comeback attempt. The Guardians' consistent chipping away was not quite enough to overcome the early damage. Minnesota improved to 61-65, while Cleveland fell to 60-66.
