Seattle Mariners vs Chicago White Sox — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Chicago White Sox mounted a late-inning rally to edge the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Sunday. Despite trailing for most of the contest and being held scoreless through seven frames, the White Sox pushed across two decisive runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the narrow victory.

Seattle initially took the lead in the top of the first inning when Arozarena singled to center, allowing Rodríguez to score on a fielding error by center fielder Peters. This early advantage appeared to be all the support Mariners starter Logan Gilbert would need. Gilbert delivered a masterful performance, stifling the White Sox offense through six innings, recording nine strikeouts and surrendering no earned runs.

The turning point arrived dramatically in the bottom of the eighth. Randal Grichuk broke the shutout with a 377-foot solo home run to left field, knotting the score at one run apiece. Following Grichuk's blast, the White Sox continued to threaten. Vargas then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing Romo home and putting Chicago ahead for the first time.

Ultimately, the White Sox’s persistence paid off, as their late offensive surge was just enough to overcome an otherwise dominant pitching display from Seattle. Their ability to capitalize on a fleeting opportunity in the eighth inning proved to be the difference. Following the game, the Mariners dropped to a 59-67 record, while the White Sox improved to 66-58.
