Game Recap
The Atlanta Braves, entering the contest with a commanding 62-44 record and favored to win against the 45-62 New York Mets, lived up to expectations in a 5-3 victory. Atlanta wasted no time asserting themselves on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the second inning, Michael Harris II launched a 419-foot homer to center field, bringing Dubรณn home and giving the Braves an early 2-0 lead.
The Mets quickly countered in the top of the third. Juan Soto connected for a 359-foot blast to left, a two-run shot that also scored Ewing, knotting the game at 2-2. However, the tie was short-lived. In the very next half-inning, Ozzie Albies responded for Atlanta with a 386-foot solo home run to right, immediately reclaiming the lead for the Braves at 3-2. Braves pitcher Grant Holmes delivered a solid outing, allowing just one earned run over five innings of work, striking out two.
As the game progressed, Matt Olson took center stage for the Braves, extending their advantage with his formidable power. In the bottom of the fifth, Olson hammered a 429-foot solo homer to right center, pushing Atlanta's lead to 4-2. He wasn't done for the night, returning to the long ball in the bottom of the eighth with another solo shot, this one traveling 411 feet to right, giving the Braves a seemingly comfortable 5-2 cushion heading into the final frame. Olson finished the game with two hits, both home runs, driving in two and scoring two runs.
The Mets mounted a final effort in the top of the ninth. Bo Bichette singled to right field, allowing Torrens to score and moving Soto to third, narrowing the deficit to 5-3. However, that was as close as New York would get, as Atlanta closed out the game to secure the win. The Braves' performance, particularly their three home runs to the Mets' one, ensured the pregame favorite ultimately triumphed.
