Milwaukee Brewers vs Arizona Diamondbacks โ€” Recap

๐Ÿ“ฐGame Recap

Milwaukee, entering the contest at 67-40 as the favored team against the 57-52 Diamondbacks, wasted no time asserting their expected dominance. The Brewers opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Garrett Mitchell launched a 435-foot home run to center field, bringing Abraham Bauers home and putting Milwaukee up 2-0 after an umpire review upheld the call. An inning later, the Brewers extended their lead as Bauers singled to right, scoring Brice Turang and making it 3-0.

However, Arizona quickly mounted a response in the bottom of the third. Gabriel Moreno's single to right brought Ketel Marte home, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Diamondbacks continued their rally, with Nolan Arenado's double to left scoring Corbin Carroll and Moreno, suddenly tying the game at 3-3. What promised to be an early offensive shootout then settled into a tense deadlock, as neither team managed to break the tie through the regulation nine innings, forcing extra frames.

The extra innings proved to be the turning point, with the Milwaukee Brewers finally breaking the stalemate in the top of the eleventh. With runners on, Jackson Chourio reached on an infield single to the pitcher, but a subsequent throwing error by Diamondbacks pitcher Kevin Thompson allowed both Jake Perkins and Chris Pratt to score, advancing Chourio to second and Christian Yelich to third. This costly error put Milwaukee up 5-3. Brice Turang then capitalized on the momentum, singling to left field to score both Yelich and Chourio, widening the Brewers' advantage to 7-3.

The Diamondbacks attempted a late-inning comeback in the bottom of the eleventh, with Josh Vargas singling to right to score Lourdes Gurriel Jr., but it was too little, too late. The run brought the score to 7-4, where it would ultimately stand. Milwaukee, the pregame favorite, successfully closed out the victory. Key to maintaining the Brewers' position and allowing for the eventual extra-inning surge was the stellar relief pitching of Chad Patrick, who contributed 3.1 innings without allowing an earned run and striking out two, effectively silencing the Diamondbacks' bats after their third-inning rally. Mitchell's early two-run blast and his overall performance (1 hit, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 run) also highlighted the Brewers' offensive effort.
