Game Recap
The New York Mets mounted a thrilling late-game rally, clawing back from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning to defeat the New York Yankees 7-6 in extra innings. The comeback was capped by a walk-off fielder's choice in the tenth, after a game-tying home run had forced extra frames.
The Yankees opened the scoring in the third inning when Rice homered to center field. The Mets responded quickly in the fourth, with Semien doubling to right field to drive in Vientos and knot the score at one run apiece. However, New York (AL) then broke the game open in the sixth, plating four runs, and added another insurance run in the seventh to build a substantial 6-3 lead.
Despite the Yankees' four-run outburst in the sixth, which saw Volpe deliver a two-run single and later score on an error, the game ultimately swung in the Mets' favor. Torrens' two-run double in the bottom of the sixth had already cut into the deficit, but the Bronx Bombers pushed their lead back to three runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to Volpe. The decisive blow came in the bottom of the ninth when Tyrone Taylor launched a 404-foot, three-run home run to left field, bringing home Benge and Soto to dramatically tie the game at six.
The Mets' resilience ultimately decided the cross-town contest, as they refused to yield despite falling behind by multiple runs in the middle innings. Semien scored the winning run from third in the tenth on Benge's ground ball, completing the improbable comeback. The Mets now stand at 57-69, while the Yankees' record moves to 69-56.
