Game Recap
Cleveland rallied in the latter half of the game to overcome a short-lived Cincinnati lead, ultimately securing a victory. The Guardians broke a tie in the seventh inning and added an insurance run to put the game out of reach.
The Guardians initially took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Rocchio singled to left field, bringing home both Kwan and Martínez. Cincinnati responded in the third with a solo home run from Myers. The Reds then surged ahead in the fifth, tying the game on a walk to Stewart that scored Dunn, before Steer doubled to center, driving in Hayes and De La Cruz for a 4-2 advantage.
Cincinnati's three-run fifth inning, their largest scoring frame of the contest, provided a fleeting lead. However, Cleveland quickly began chipping away in the bottom of the sixth. Kwan scored on a wild pitch by Mey to narrow the deficit, and the game was knotted at four runs apiece when Hoskins lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Martínez. The decisive blow came in the bottom of the seventh inning as Angel Martínez crushed a 395-foot, two-run home run to right-center field, also scoring Manzardo and putting the Guardians back on top.
The Guardians' resilience in responding to Cincinnati's rally proved to be the difference, consistently finding ways to push runs across late in the game, culminating in Martínez's impactful homer. An error by Reds pitcher Phillips in the eighth allowed Ramírez to score, adding an additional cushion. Cleveland improved to 61-65, while Cincinnati fell to 59-66.
