San Diego Padres vs Seattle Mariners — Recap

📰Game Recap

San Diego secured a road victory over Seattle, establishing a significant early lead that proved too much for the Mariners to overcome despite their late efforts. The Padres' offense powered a decisive middle-innings surge, creating a multi-run cushion that held firm through the final frames.

The Padres opened the scoring in the second inning when Sheets homered to right center. Their lead expanded dramatically in the fourth. Machado scored on an Andujar fielder's choice, followed immediately by Nick Castellanos's three-run blast to center field, pushing the score to 5-0. Seattle responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth on Young's single and another in the fifth on Crawford's solo home run. San Diego added two insurance runs in the seventh courtesy of Durán's two-run homer. The Mariners attempted a comeback in the eighth with runs from Arozarena and Young, but could get no closer.

The critical separation for San Diego came in the fourth inning, where they plated four runs. After Machado crossed the plate, Castellanos delivered the biggest blow of the game with his 401-foot home run to center, scoring Bogaerts and Andujar ahead of him. That pivotal swing gave the Padres a commanding five-run advantage that fundamentally shaped the rest of the contest. On the mound, Walker Buehler contributed to maintaining that lead, limiting Seattle to two earned runs over five innings while striking out six.

Ultimately, San Diego's powerful four-run fourth inning provided an early and enduring lead that Seattle could never fully erase. The Padres' consistent offensive pressure ensured they stayed ahead throughout, securing the win. San Diego now stands at 68-58, while Seattle falls to 59-67.
