Miami Marlins vs Tampa Bay Rays — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Miami Marlins pulled away from the Tampa Bay Rays in extra innings, scoring eight runs in the tenth inning to secure a 10-5 victory after a tightly contested nine frames. The decisive outburst came after the teams traded blows late, setting up a dramatic finish.

The Rays initially broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when Simpson singled to left, allowing Walls to cross the plate. Miami responded in the seventh, as Hernández launched a 439-foot solo home run to left center, evening the score. The Marlins then took their first lead in the top of the ninth on a Javier Sanoja double that scored Marsee, but the Rays answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Fortes singled to left, driving home Mullins and sending the game into extra innings tied at two.

The extra frame proved to be the decisive turning point, with the Marlins erupting for eight runs in the top of the tenth. Hicks ignited the rally with a two-run single that brought Mack and Ruiz home. Lopez followed with a sacrifice fly, and Norby added an RBI single before Sanoja delivered his second critical hit of the game, a three-run double that scored Marsee, Stowers, and Norby. An RBI single from Esteury Ruiz extended the lead further, capping a dominant offensive outburst. Though the Rays attempted a comeback in the bottom of the tenth with Caminero's two-run double and Aranda's RBI double, the deficit was too large to overcome, despite Miami starter Sandy Alcantara's six scoreless innings with six strikeouts proving crucial in keeping the game within reach early on.

Ultimately, the Marlins' sustained offensive attack in the tenth inning, highlighted by Javier Sanoja's four RBI performance, overwhelmed the Rays in a game that remained deadlocked for much of the contest. The Miami Marlins now stand at 65-61, while the Tampa Bay Rays hold a 74-50 record.
