Cincinnati Reds vs Philadelphia Phillies — Recap

📰Game Recap

Cincinnati rode a dominant pitching performance from Chase Burns and a pivotal three-run seventh inning to a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Burns stifled the Phillies' lineup, allowing his offense to seize control late in the contest after a tight battle.

The Phillies initially took the lead in the third inning when Trea Turner launched a 409-foot solo home run to left field. Cincinnati quickly answered in the top of the fourth, with TJ Friedl scoring on a sacrifice fly from Stuart Fairchild, and then Spencer Steer crossing home plate on another sacrifice fly from Jake Fraley, giving the Reds a narrow 2-1 advantage. This score held for the next two innings as both bullpens took over.

The decisive turning point arrived in the seventh inning. Following a successful challenge from the Reds, Blake Dunn scored on a fielder's choice by Matt McLain, extending Cincinnati's lead to two runs. Shortly thereafter, Elly De La Cruz drew a walk with the bases loaded, allowing Tyler Stephenson to score and push the Reds' lead to its final 4-1 margin. Burns’ exceptional outing, which included six innings pitched with nine strikeouts and just one earned run, kept the game within reach for the Reds to mount their rally.

Ultimately, Cincinnati's combination of stingy pitching and timely hitting proved too much for the Phillies' offense to overcome. The Cincinnati Reds improved their record to 60-65, while the Philadelphia Phillies now stand at 67-59.
