Game Recap
The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame an early two-run deficit to defeat the San Diego Padres in a closely contested matchup. After the Padres took a 4-2 lead in the third inning, Los Angeles slowly mounted a comeback, tying the game in the sixth and eventually pushing across the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to secure the victory.
The game began with the Dodgers drawing first blood in the top of the first when Freddie Freeman launched a two-run homer to left field, scoring Shohei Ohtani. However, San Diego quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Manny Machado hit a two-run shot of his own, scoring Sheets and evening the score. The Padres then seized the lead in the third, with Andujar hitting a two-run home run that also scored Fernando Tatis Jr., putting them up 4-2.
Los Angeles began to chip away at the deficit in the fifth inning when Shohei Ohtani grounded out, allowing Teoscar HernΓ‘ndez to cross the plate and cut the Padres' lead to one. The Dodgers then pulled even in the sixth, courtesy of another solo home run by Freeman, his second of the game, this time to right-center field. The decisive run came in the top of the ninth when Andy Pages hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Alex Call. San Diego challenged the tag play at the plate, but the call was upheld, securing the Dodgers' lead. Griffin Canning allowed 3 earned runs over 5 innings, striking out 5, but the Padres bullpen couldn't hold the lead.
Ultimately, the Dodgers' persistent offense and ability to respond after falling behind proved to be the difference, culminating in a late-game surge. The Los Angeles Dodgers now stand at 76-51, while the San Diego Padres fall to 67-60.
