Cleveland Guardians vs Philadelphia Phillies — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Cleveland Guardians stifled the Philadelphia Phillies' offense and used timely hitting to secure a 3-1 victory on Monday. A dominant start from Parker Messick kept Philadelphia off the scoreboard for the majority of the contest, allowing Cleveland's lineup to gradually build a lead.

Cleveland broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Kwan singled to left field, bringing Schneemann home. The Guardians extended their lead in the top of the sixth after Hoskins doubled, scoring DeLauter, before being thrown out trying to stretch it to third. The Phillies responded in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the deficit to one run on a sacrifice fly from Harper that allowed Marsh to score.

Parker Messick proved to be the pivotal figure in the game, delivering 5.2 shutout innings while striking out six batters to handcuff the Phillies' bats. His performance ensured that Philadelphia's lone run came long after Messick had exited. Travis Bazzana provided crucial insurance in the eighth inning, launching a 412-foot solo home run to right field, re-establishing a two-run cushion for Cleveland.

Ultimately, the Guardians prevailed thanks to Messick's strong outing and opportunistic hitting that provided just enough offense to win a tight road game. The Guardians improved their record to 61-65, while the Phillies fell to 67-59.
