The Oakland Athletics built an early lead and fended off a late surge from the San Diego Padres, securing a 5-2 road victory. They established a four-run advantage through the first four innings, then managed to hold the Padres at bay as San Diego attempted to chip away at the deficit, ultimately denying a comeback effort.

Cortes started the scoring early for Oakland, launching a solo home run to right center in the top of the first inning. The Athletics continued to build their advantage in the second frame as Bolte doubled to bring home Gelof, followed by Williams' single that scored Bolte, making it 3-0. An unearned run crossed the plate in the fourth when Heim scored on a King wild pitch, extending Oakland's lead to four runs. San Diego finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with Machado's sacrifice fly, bringing Andujar home. Ty France added a solo home run for the Padres in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 4-2. However, Oakland secured an insurance run in the ninth when Soderstrom singled to right, scoring Butler.

The Athletics' early offensive burst proved insurmountable for San Diego. After Cortes' leadoff blast in the first, Oakland extended its lead to three runs in the second inning when Bolte doubled to score Gelof, and Williams followed with an RBI single. While the Padres managed to get on the board with Machado's sacrifice fly in the sixth and Ty France's solo homer in the seventh, they could not generate the multi-run inning needed to challenge Oakland's early cushion. Pitcher Jacob Lopez also played a key role for Oakland, limiting the Padres to just one earned run over 4.2 innings.

Oakland's ability to capitalize on early opportunities and maintain composure in the face of San Diego's rally secured the road victory. The Athletics improved to 50-75, while the Padres fell to 67-59.
