Minnesota Twins vs Boston Red Sox — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Minnesota Twins secured a 6-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox, utilizing a decisive three-run sixth inning to reclaim the lead and ultimately hold on for the narrow win.

An initial scoring opportunity for Minnesota in the first inning saw a throwing error by right fielder Abreu allow Larnach to cross the plate. Boston quickly answered in the second, with Masataka Yoshida launching a solo home run to right field to even the score. The Twins then pieced together two runs in the third inning, first on an RBI single from Larnach, followed by a run scoring on a ground-out double play by Victor Caratini. The Red Sox, however, claimed their first lead in the bottom of the fourth; Willson Contreras hit a two-run homer that brought home Abreu, and Mayer singled home Yoshida later in the inning.

The game's turning point arrived in the top of the sixth inning, where the Twins manufactured three runs to seize control. Alex Martin doubled to left field, scoring Arcia and tying the game at four. Following this, Carlos Lee delivered a crucial two-run single that scored both Kreidler and Martin, giving Minnesota a 6-4 advantage. Despite a strong offensive showing from Boston's Willson Contreras, who contributed a two-run home run as part of his two hits and two RBIs, the Red Sox offense couldn't fully counter Minnesota's decisive rally. Red Sox starter Sonny Gray recorded four strikeouts over four innings but also surrendered three earned runs.

Ultimately, Minnesota's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the middle innings, particularly their three-run outburst in the sixth, proved to be the difference against a resilient Red Sox lineup. The Twins improved to 61-65, while the Red Sox fell to 66-59.
