Game Recap
The Minnesota Twins completed a resilient comeback against the Boston Red Sox, overcoming an early four-run deficit and later a three-run hole by scoring eight unanswered runs to secure an 8-6 victory.
Boston's offense roared to life in the bottom of the first inning, with Abreu's double bringing home Duran, followed by Contreras's triple scoring Abreu. Monasterio then singled home Contreras, and a sacrifice fly by Mayer capped a four-run frame, giving the Red Sox an immediate 4-0 lead. Minnesota quickly responded in the top of the second when Kreidler doubled, scoring Bell, and Keaschall's single drove in Gonzalez. Buxton's subsequent single plated Kreidler, cutting the deficit to one run. Boston, however, extended its lead in the fourth, benefiting from a throwing error on a Durbin sacrifice bunt that scored Sogard, and Duran's groundout brought home NarvΓ‘ez, making it 6-3.
The turning point arrived in the top of the seventh inning, where the Twins staged a decisive four-run rally. Byron Buxton ignited the surge with a two-run home run to center field, bringing the Twins within a single run. Moments later, Martin blasted a two-run shot of his own to left center, scoring Lee and giving Minnesota its first lead of the game, 7-6. This explosive inning, fueled by back-to-back homers, completely erased Boston's advantage and put the Twins in control.
Ultimately, Minnesota's ability to consistently chip away at Boston's lead and then deliver a powerful seventh-inning punch proved to be the difference. They added an insurance run in the ninth when Larnach drew a walk with the bases loaded, scoring Lee. The victory improved the Twins' record to 61-65, while the Red Sox fell to 66-59.
