Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Atlanta Braves repeatedly erased deficits, including a two-run lead in extra innings, to secure a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Washington Nationals in 11 frames. The hard-fought contest saw both teams trading blows, but Atlanta's resilience ultimately proved decisive on their home field.

Washington initially broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning when Mead homered to left center. Atlanta swiftly responded in the bottom of the seventh, first tying the game on a single by Smith that brought home Harris II, then taking the lead as Kim reached on a bunt single, scoring Riley. However, CJ Abrams knotted the score at two in the eighth inning with a solo home run to right center, sending the game into extra innings.

The Nationals appeared poised to take control in the 10th frame, with Abrams hitting a two-run triple to right that scored Wood and Chaparro, giving Washington a 4-2 advantage. Yet, Atlanta refused to concede, immediately chipping away at the lead in the bottom of the inning. Tromp singled to center, bringing home Kim, and Dubón followed with an infield single to shortstop that scored Tromp, drawing the Braves even once more. Early in the contest, Braves starter Bryce Elder delivered a strong outing, allowing just one earned run over 6.0 innings with four strikeouts, which helped keep the game within reach for the late heroics.

The Braves' persistence ultimately paid off in the 11th inning when Tromp delivered another clutch hit, a single to center, allowing White to score the winning run. Atlanta's repeated ability to answer Washington's scoring thrusts, particularly in the later innings and under pressure, proved to be the difference in the narrow win. The Braves moved to 75-51 on the season, while Washington fell to 60-67.
