The Yankees initially broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Rice’s sacrifice fly brought home Volpe. Arizona quickly answered in the bottom of the frame, as Lawlar’s triple to center field drove in Arenado and Tawa, giving the Diamondbacks a 2-1 lead. New York recaptured the lead in the sixth with back-to-back solo home runs from Ramos and Wells, but Arizona responded yet again, tying the game at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly from Carroll later that inning.

Despite a dominant outing from New York starter Cam Schlittler, who allowed just one earned run over six innings while striking out six, the game ultimately turned in the ninth. After the Yankees failed to score in the top half, Arizona's offense delivered the decisive blow. Pavin Smith stepped to the plate with a runner on and launched a two-run home run to right-center field, securing the walk-off victory for the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks’ resilient offense, particularly their ability to respond to New York’s scoring and their late-game heroics, proved to be the difference against a strong Yankees pitching performance. Arizona improved to 81-74, while New York fell to 89-65.
