The White Sox initiated the scoring early, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of a C. Montgomery single, a Meidroth sacrifice fly, and a B. Montgomery triple. However, the momentum began to shift dramatically in the top of the fourth inning when the Yankees surged for four runs, turning the tide and establishing a new lead.

That pivotal fourth inning saw the Yankees chip away at the White Sox's advantage, starting with Volpe's groundout that allowed Rice to score. Although the White Sox added one more run in the bottom of the ninth on a fielding error by shortstop Volpe, it was not enough to mount a full comeback. Ali Sanchez's offensive heroics, featuring his solo hit — a crucial three-run home run — along with three RBI and a run scored, marked the top batting performance for New York. For Chicago, reliever Trevor Richards delivered a commendable outing, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings and recording four strikeouts. Following the contest, the Yankees moved to 60-46 on the season, while the White Sox's record dropped to 55-50.
