The Texas Rangers, entering Sunday's contest with a 53-52 record, pulled off an upset against the favored Seattle Mariners (52-54), securing a 7-3 victory. The decisive turning point came in the bottom of the second inning when the Rangers scored three crucial runs, establishing a lead they would maintain through the rest of the game. Powering the Rangers' offense was Joc Pederson, who delivered a spectacular performance with two home runs, four RBI, and scored two runs on two hits. On the mound, Kumar Rocker provided a strong outing, tossing 6.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs, and striking out seven Seattle batters.

Pederson wasted no time making his mark, blasting a 418-foot solo home run to center field in the bottom of the first inning to give Texas an early 1-0 lead. Seattle briefly tied the game in the top of the second with Arozarena's 395-foot solo shot to center. However, the Rangers immediately broke the deadlock in the bottom of the frame when Pederson launched his second homer of the day, a 347-foot shot to right that scored Lopez and Díaz, putting Texas ahead 4-1. While Rodríguez's sacrifice fly in the third brought Emerson home for Seattle, the Rangers answered back with a two-run outburst in the bottom of the third, featuring back-to-back home runs from Duran and Burger, with Burger's 403-foot drive scoring Carter to extend the lead to 7-2. Despite Crawford's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning scoring Naylor for Seattle, the late run was not enough to overcome the Rangers' earlier surge, as Texas closed out the 7-3 win.
