The Chicago Cubs, entering the contest as favorites with a 59-46 record, defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 7-3, extending their lead in the standings. The Cubs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Bregman doubling to left in the top of the first inning to bring Suzuki home. An inning later, Amaya singled to right, scoring Hoerner and pushing Swanson to second, giving Chicago an early 2-0 advantage. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the second, as Fermín launched a 407-foot home run to left field, cutting the deficit to one, but Bregman's 369-foot homer to right in the third inning quickly re-established a two-run lead for the Cubs.

The Cubs continued to pull away in the fifth inning when Nico Hoerner singled to center, driving in both Bregman and Kelly to make it 5-1. While the Cardinals attempted a rally in the sixth, first with Winn singling home Walker, and then Winn himself scoring on a ground rule double by Torres, they still found themselves trailing 5-3. On the mound, Chicago's David Peterson delivered a solid outing, pitching 5.2 innings, striking out three, and allowing only two earned runs to keep the Cardinals offense in check through much of the game.

The night belonged to Nico Hoerner, who capped off an impressive offensive performance in the top of the ninth inning. With Bregman aboard, Hoerner connected for a 382-foot home run to left, driving in two more runs and extending Chicago's lead to 7-3, a score that would hold as the final. Hoerner finished the game with four hits, including a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. The victory improves the Cubs' record to 60-46, while the Cardinals now stand at 53-53.
