Game Recap
The Philadelphia Phillies broke open a tied game with a four-run outburst in the 10th inning, fending off the Atlanta Braves' late rally attempts. This decisive extra-innings offense secured a victory after a tightly contested affair that saw the score knotted four different times before the final frame.
Philadelphia initially took an early lead, scoring a run in the first inning on a triple by GarcΓa that brought home Harper. They extended their advantage to 2-0 in the fourth when Stott tripled home Marsh. Atlanta responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth, first with a sacrifice fly from Harris II, then tying the game on a double by Riley. The Phillies reclaimed the lead in the fifth on an infield single by Harper. However, the Braves once again answered in the sixth, taking their first lead after an RBI double from Albies and a single from Harris II. The see-saw battle continued into the eighth inning when Harper's sacrifice fly knotted the score at four runs apiece, sending the game to extras.
The turning point came in the top of the 10th inning, where Philadelphiaβs offense finally pulled away. Harper delivered a crucial two-run single to left field, scoring Stubbs and Turner and giving the Phillies a two-run cushion. Marsh then followed with another two-run single, plating Moore and Harper to stretch the lead to four. While Atlanta managed a run in the bottom half of the inning on a single by Baldwin, the deficit proved too much to overcome. Harper's consistent production throughout the game, including 4 RBI and 2 runs scored, was instrumental, particularly his decisive two-run hit in extra innings that truly swung momentum. Zack Wheelerβs solid five-inning start, allowing only two earned runs and striking out six, kept the Phillies in contention through the early innings.
Ultimately, the Phillies' ability to generate offense and capitalize on the extra-innings runner proved to be the difference in a game where neither team could build a sustainable lead until the very end. Philadelphia advanced to 69-58 on the season, while Atlanta dropped to 74-52.
