Seattle Mariners vs St. Louis Cardinals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Seattle Mariners mounted a resilient comeback, erasing multiple deficits before a two-run ninth inning ultimately secured an 11-9 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. Seattle overcame a three-run hole created by St. Louis's largest scoring inning and answered every subsequent surge from the Cardinals, demonstrating persistent offense throughout the contest.

Offense began quickly, with the Mariners taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Julio Rodríguez two-run home run. St. Louis swiftly countered with back-to-back solo shots from Mason Wetherholt and Cesar Herrera, immediately tying the game. Seattle again pulled ahead in the second when Luke Wilson launched a two-run blast, but Nathan Church responded with a solo home run for the Cardinals, keeping it a one-run affair. St. Louis then seized control in the third, scoring four runs as Masyn Winn's single tied it, Church's sacrifice fly gave them the lead, and Iván Herrera Pagés added a two-run homer to push the advantage to 7-4.

Despite the Cardinals' four-run outburst in the third, Seattle steadily chipped away at the lead. Dominic Young's solo home run in the fourth and Randy Arozarena's sacrifice fly in the fifth brought the Mariners within one run. A single by Cade Canzone in the sixth then drew Seattle level at 7-7. However, Nathan Church hit his second home run of the game in the seventh, a two-run shot, to put St. Louis back in front. The Mariners continued to press, tying the game once more in the eighth inning on a two-run single by Conner Joe, while Jose Ferrer provided two scoreless innings of relief to keep the score knotted.

Seattle's relentless offensive pressure and refusal to yield proved to be the difference, as they repeatedly erased St. Louis leads before finally breaking through in the ninth with a two-run single from José Rivas that sealed the dramatic victory. With the win, Seattle improved its record to 60-66, while St. Louis fell to 64-62.
