Washington Nationals vs Chicago White Sox — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Washington Nationals broke a late-game tie with a four-run explosion in the tenth inning, clinching a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. This extra-innings triumph saw the Nationals overcome a regulation lead that had evaporated in the eighth, showcasing resilience in a pivotal offensive frame.

Washington initially seized control in the fourth inning when Nasim Nunez delivered a two-run single, scoring House and Lile for a 2-0 advantage. This lead held until the bottom of the eighth, when Chicago mounted its own rally. Pereira's single brought home Vargas, and a sacrifice fly by Meidroth plated Montgomery, knotting the score at two runs apiece and forcing extra baseball.

The decisive tenth inning saw the Nationals capitalize on White Sox miscues and timely hitting. Wood scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Leasure, making it 3-2. Washington then extended its lead when Mead scored on a walk drawn by Wiemer with the bases loaded. The inning culminated with Nunez's second impactful hit of the game, a two-run single to right that brought home García Jr. and Lile, creating a 6-2 cushion. Earlier in the game, Nationals starter Jake Irvin provided a stellar outing, keeping the White Sox scoreless through 5.2 innings and striking out nine, setting the stage for his team's later offensive heroics.

Ultimately, Washington's ability to capitalize on extra-inning opportunities and the clutch hitting from Nasim Nunez, who finished with four RBI, proved to be the difference. The Nationals now hold a 61-66 record, while the White Sox fall to 65-59.
