Seattle Mariners vs Kansas City Royals — Recap

📰Game Recap

The Kansas City Royals secured a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners, propelled by a stellar complete game shutout performance from pitcher Stephen Kolek. Kansas City’s offense capitalized on early opportunities, ensuring Kolek had ample run support to work with throughout the contest.

Kansas City took an immediate lead in the bottom of the first inning. Pasquantino grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Garcia to score on an error by Mariners second baseman Young, who also committed a throwing error that left Witt Jr. safe at second. Carter Jensen then drove in Witt Jr. with an RBI groundout, and Caglianone followed with a single to right field, scoring Pasquantino to make it 3-0.

The Royals continued to add insurance runs, allowing Kolek to settle into his dominant rhythm. Jensen delivered another key hit in the third inning, hitting a sacrifice fly to left that brought home Witt Jr. Later, in the sixth, Isaac Collins’ line drive single to center field scored Jensen after a Mariners challenge to a tag play was upheld, extending Kansas City’s lead to its eventual 5-0 final.

Stephen Kolek’s masterful performance, featuring nine scoreless innings and two strikeouts, was the defining factor in the Royals' triumph. He consistently stifled the Mariners' lineup, ensuring that even a modest offensive output from Kansas City was more than enough. The Mariners now stand at 59-67, while the Royals improve their record to 52-74.
